Privacy Policy

This policy explains what personal information Techr ("we", "us") collects when you use this website, why we collect it, and the choices you have. Techr is operated in Alberta, Canada. We handle personal information in line with Alberta's Personal Information Protection Act (PIPA) and, where it applies, the federal Personal Information Protection and Electronic Documents Act (PIPEDA).
Information we collect
- Account information: your name and email address, and a password if you sign up with email. If you sign in with Google, we receive your name, email address, and profile picture from Google. We never receive your Google password.
- Profile information you choose to add: for example your role, skills, interests, links, and answers to event registration questions.
- Event participation: tickets associated with your email address (as provided by the event's ticketing platform), ideas you submit, votes you cast, your team, project submissions, files you upload, messages you post in team chat, and judging results for your team.
- Technical information: basic logs (IP address, browser type, pages requested, and timestamps) and cookies that keep you signed in and protect forms from abuse.
How we use it
- To create and secure your account and let you sign in.
- To run events: confirming your ticket, forming teams, showing your ideas and team to other participants, judging, and publishing results.
- To send you service emails about events you're registered for (for example invites, confirmations, team assignments, and announcements).
- To keep the platform safe, prevent abuse, and fix problems.
We do not sell your personal information. We do not use it for advertising.
What other people can see
Other participants in an event can see your name, profile picture, the ideas you submit, and your team. Your team's members and the event's organizers can see messages and files shared in your team's space. Judges' scores and comments for your team are shown to your team once results are published. Your email address is visible only to event organizers.
Service providers
We use a small number of service providers to operate Techr, such as cloud hosting and file storage, an email delivery service, and Google for sign-in. They process information on our behalf and only for that purpose. Some of these providers may store or process information outside Canada (for example in the United States), where it may be subject to the laws of that country.
Retention
We keep your account information while your account is active. Event records (such as teams, submissions, and results) are kept for as long as they are useful to organizers and participants, after which they are deleted or anonymized. You can ask us to delete your account at any time.
Your choices and rights
You can view and update your profile at any time. You can ask to access the personal information we hold about you, ask us to correct it, withdraw consent, or ask us to delete your account by contacting us at the address below. If you're not satisfied with our response, you may contact the Office of the Information and Privacy Commissioner of Alberta or the Office of the Privacy Commissioner of Canada.
Security
We use reasonable safeguards to protect your information, including encrypted connections (HTTPS), access controls, and hashed passwords. No system is perfectly secure, so please use a strong, unique password.
Children
Techr is not intended for children under 13. Events may set their own minimum age.
Changes
We may update this policy. If we make significant changes, we'll post the new version here and, where appropriate, let you know by email.
